As big a disaster as Nemo? Nearly.

SnowpocalypseYesterday morning I had165 blog articles.  This morning I had zero. Over two and a half years of effort in writing CRM, email marketing, and inbound marketing articles – the foundation of our content marketing and customer resources – just gone.

The morning started with a dire warning that three feet of snow and 75 MPH gusts are barreling down on us. Our governor issued an executive order to close all roads at 4:00 and the MBTA will stop service at 3:30. And then I got the email that scared me more than the impending snowpocalypse: my blog posts were missing.

My friend Len in Toronto was kind enough to let me know he got a “404, page not found error” when navigating from our website to our blog page. A look in the admin console not only confirmed that our blog was down; it was, in fact, MIA.

This can happen to anyone, and if you’re not backing up your blog (or your website), the cost could be enormous.

Our most recent backup was four days ago – all I lost was a draft in process. If I’d lost it all, permanently, the impact from this storm would have been the least of my worries.

Be careful out there. Get off the road, make some hot chocolate, and start backing up.
