Getting found online is key to a successful online marketing strategy. Kinda’ obvious, right? One critical component of “getting found” is to make sure you have a social media footprint.

Getting started and keeping current with social media can be daunting. Blogging, forums, directories, Facebook, Twitter, Linked in, YouTube, Flickr, and SlideShare are a few of the social channels you can use maximize off-page SEO.

With so many to choose from, how do you begin?

Start by dipping a toe in the Web 2.0 waters. You don’t have to engage with all channels to be effective. In fact, you’ll be most successful if you pick two or three media channels that best fit your strategy and focus your efforts there. If your organization has the bandwidth to engage more broadly, that’s great. The point is to use your time wisely to greatest effect.
