Email Marketing: It’s good to be the king

Share

Judging from all the talk about social media and online marketing, you might assume that email marketing is on the decline. Nothing could be further from the truth. Each of these methods are essential, complementary marketing tactics for 2012. But, email could well be the most effective for SMB.

Although email marketing has existed since the early 1990’s, it continues to be one of the most prevalent, cost-effective, and successful digital marketing tools. Constant Contact has published new infographic that captures the current state of email marketing. If you thought email marketing is on its way to demise, you just might be surprised at what the infographic shows.

The first section of the infographic illustrates the continued growth of email as a marketing tool. The number of emails that consumers receive continues to grow. Keep in mind, these recipients have explicitly indicated they want to receive these emails, hence the phrase “permission-based” in the graphic. In other words, this is not SPAM.

The second portion of the infographic explains why consumers are receiving more permission-based emails. You can see that consumers prefer email and that  it has a higher rate of effectiveness as compared traditional marketing tools such as direct mail.

Constant Contact findings are consistent with research from other providers like Epsilon and Mail Chimps.

Finally, the data from Constant Contact show that new marketing channels like social media are improving the effectiveness of email marketing instead of making it obsolete.

If you’ve considered moving away from email, then, based on these statistics, we think you’ll want to reconsider.
